Outbound hides 12 ceramic gnomes across all four biomes. Collecting every single one unlocks the Garden Keeper achievement and rewards you with a unique cosmetic van decoration. They’re easy to miss — most are tucked behind environmental features, hidden at dusk-specific glow points, or stashed inside structures you’d only enter for other reasons. This guide lists every gnome location, organised by biome, in the order you’ll naturally encounter them.
Starting Area Gnomes — 3 Total
Gnome 1: River Bank East
On the river bank approximately 50 metres east of your starting van spawn point, sitting on a moss-covered log at the water’s edge. This one is hard to miss if you scout the river on your first day. It faces upstream and blends into the moss — look for the pointed red hat.

Gnome 2: Wooden Footbridge
Under the wooden footbridge approximately 120 metres north of the starting area. Approach from the riverside, not from the road. The gnome is wedged between two support beams on the underside — you won’t see it from above.
Gnome 3: Signal Tower Ridge
On the ridge immediately next to the Starting Area Signal Tower, facing east toward where the sun rises, right at the edge of the ridge drop-off. When you activate the first Signal Tower, simply turn around and walk toward the ridge.
Canyons Gnomes — 2 Total
Gnome 4: Abandoned Factory Back Room
Inside the abandoned factory in the central Canyons area. The main entrance is overgrown — use your axe to clear the foliage blocking the side door, then head to the back storage room. The gnome sits on a shelf among rusted equipment. Once you’ve activated the Canyon Signal Tower, the factory appears as a named landmark on your map.
Gnome 5: Beehive Tree Base (Dusk Only)
At the base of the large beehive tree in the eastern Canyons. This is the only time-sensitive gnome in the game — it’s only visible at dusk, when the beehive glows softly and illuminates the gnome below it. During daylight it blends completely into the tree roots. Aim for between 18:00 and 20:00 in-game time. If you’re struggling to spot it, find the amber glow from the hive and look directly below it.
Coast Gnomes — 4 Total
Gnome 6: Watchman Shack
On the south rim of the Coast biome, on the windowsill of the old watchman shack overlooking the cliffside. Park below and approach on foot. The gnome is on the exterior sill, facing out to sea.
Gnome 7: East Lighthouse Roof
At the top of the East Lighthouse — climb the interior spiral staircase all the way up to the roof access platform. The gnome is near the railing. The best time to grab this is during the Coast questline when you’re already climbing to the top to activate the lighthouse beacon.
Gnome 8: Half-Buried Freighter
Inside the wrecked freighter partially buried in the sand on the northern Coast shoreline. Climb aboard via the tilted hull and navigate up to the ship’s bridge — the upper forward cabin. The gnome is on the captain’s console. The freighter is visible from the main road; it’s the large rusted hull sticking out of the dunes.
Gnome 9: West Pier End
At the very end of the broken western jetty. Walk the full length of the crumbling pier to the furthest intact plank section — the gnome is at the edge, facing the open water. Mind the gaps.
Gnome 10: Coastline Trader’s Caravan Dashboard
Inside the Coastline Trader’s caravan — a stationary NPC merchant vehicle near the central Coast crossroads. The gnome is on the dashboard inside the cab. You can pick it up without triggering any dialogue. Look for the caravan with the distinctive striped awning, parked near where the road from the Canyons meets the main coastal route.
Mountains Gnomes — 2 Total
Gnome 11: Central Peak Ridge
On the central peak ridge, positioned between two Rose Mineral nodes. As you drive the main mountain path toward the final climb, look for the twin white crystal formations on the ridgeline to your right. The gnome sits between them. You’ll likely spot this one naturally during a Rose Mineral farming run.

Gnome 12: North Glacier Ice Cave
Inside a small ice cave approximately 80 metres east of the Chrome Ore vein, on the north glacier. This is the hardest gnome in the game. The cave entrance is only visible from one angle — approaching from the west on the downslope path. It’s completely invisible if you approach from above or from the east. The cave is small, maybe 10 metres deep, and the gnome is at the back wall. To find it: from the Chrome Ore vein, face east and walk downslope. After 60 to 80 metres, you’ll see a narrow rock gap at eye level. That’s the entrance.
Reward: Garden Keeper Achievement and Van Decoration
Collect all 12 and you’ll unlock the Garden Keeper Steam achievement and the Gnome Garden — a cosmetic van module that arranges all 12 gnomes in a small garden on your camper van’s exterior deck. It serves no gameplay function, but it’s one of the more charming cosmetics in the game and well worth the hunt.
Collection Order
Follow natural biome progression: Starting Area (1 to 3), then Canyons (4 to 5), then Coast (6 to 10), then Mountains (11 to 12). The only gnome requiring special timing is Gnome 5 at the beehive tree, which needs dusk. If you pass through the Canyons during daylight, mark it on your map and return before nightfall. Gnome 12 in the ice cave is the only one that’ll likely need a dedicated search — use the Chrome Ore vein as your reference point and it’s straightforward from there.
