Best Early Combat Skills to Unlock
Early Game Starting Skills
When you first log into Project Gorgon, you begin on Anagog Island. From the start, every character has a Sword and the Unarmed Combat skill. These are your default combat options and are more than enough to carry you through the island and early quests.
However, to progress quickly in the game, you need to branch out and obtain more specialized skills quickly.
Archery
Archery is one of the best early ranged combat skills for new players. There are two ways you can unlock the Archery Skill.
You can unlock Archery directly on Anagog Island by exploring the research facility. You will need to find a torn page in the facility corridors, which will direct you to some Record Golems.
From there, you must bypass a barrier to enter a secret chamber. Inside the chamber, you will fight a golem that drops a chest containing a bow. Picking up the bow automatically unlocks the Archery skill.
You can also unlock the Archery skill in the Serbule hills by speaking with Elahil and purchasing a Stock Bow from him.
Shield
Shield is a powerful defensive skill that pairs well with Sword or Unarmed combat.
Travel to the Serbule Hills and visit Tyler Green at the inn. To unlock Shield, you need to raise his favor. The easiest method is retrieving a battered shield from the nearby spider caves at the location shown below, and turning it in.
Once unlocked, Shield dramatically increases survivability and is excellent for early melee builds. You can also raise his favor by gifting him items from your inventory.
Bard
Bard is a strong support combat skill. You will unlock it by speaking with Raphael at the same inn you found Tyler Green. However, you will need to have Stringed Instruments at level 5.
The fastest way to get a level 5 Stringed Instrument is to buy a Classic Lute from Marna in the Serbule Keep and equip it under the performance skills tab. Return to Raphael, and he will teach you the Bard skill.
Knife Fighting
Knife Fighting is a useful melee combat skill taught by Bahdba the Fairy. You will find the fairy in a stone formation area in Serbule, as shown below:

Mentalism
Mentalism is another damage-support combat skill you can learn from an NPC named Echur in Serbule Keep. To learn the skill, you must raise favor by completing all the quests he gives you.
Fire Magic
Lastly, Fire Magic. You can only unlock Fire Magic by completing a research quest. Find Velkort in the Serbule Keep and interact with her. You will receive a research quest that unlocks fire spells after you complete it.
